family setting

While at YWAP, the boys actually become an extended part of the Moore family. They are challenged to change their lives through a systematic approach.  The boys share in normal family responsibilities of both the home and farm.  They also experience the rewards of family, by receiving nurturing care and support by those in the “family”.

Levels System & Structure

Levels System & Structure

Our program is designed with 5 levels, which are designed to increase in responsibility & privileges as behavior improves in the program. Residents are both rewarded for positive behavior, and sanctioned for negative behavior. Charts are used as one means of monitoring individually targeted behavioral problems, as well as overall progress. This helps both the resident and the staff measure to some degree individual progress.

Work Ethics

All of the boys work in the program by doing chores, and are able to develop positive work skills in that way. We teach life skills which enable the boys to become producers, and not merely consumers.

Schooling

Schooling is required by every YWAP youth.  They are expected to get their high school education.  If it is not practical to complete high school, a GED may be acquired instead.

Recreation

To go along with the work involved in self improvement, the boys also have opportunities to earn recreational privileges which include:

  • Fishing
  • Horseback Riding
  • Working with farm animals
  • Camping

Recreation

We also take the boys on outings during the year. They have gone to places such as the Warther Museum, Schoenbrunn Village, and similar historic sites of interest. We have also gone to both Pittsburgh Pirate, and Steeler Games. We make an attempt to be balanced in all areas of interest for recreation.

Church and Community

Church and community involvement is available. We strive to offer an interdenominational approach to Christianity. No one is forced to be involved, but it seems that all eventually choose to be. Different area churches and leaders are involved with our boys.
